Tuk Tuk Tour & Golden Mount

I was warned. Yet, we were still naively caught in a tuk tuk scheme. After a very short night of sleep, Tressa and I headed to the Golden Palace but before we were even in the door a "Professor" stopped us and offered us a tour of the important sights in Bangkok for only 20B (less than $1). Skeptical, but feeling adventurous, we boarded a tuk tuk and headed off to the Golden Mount, a shrine on top of a mountain in the middle of town. Quite spectacular. We hiked up a grillion mini-stairs and were presented with a gorgeous view of the city.

At the top of the Golden Mount some tourists (who I presume were from another country in Southeast Asia, but didn't speak enough English for us to decifer where) found us to be an attractive sight and requested pictures with us! Didn't think we'd come all the way to Thailand to be a tourist attraction!

Our tuk tuk driver was very nice; he tour-guided us through the sights and encouraged us to take our time.

After the Golden Mount we visited an area with many shrines, I'm not sure of its name. It was interesting because local Thais were celebrating a hamani (picnic) of sorts. They were BBQ'ing chatting and napping in big groups inside the temple. So cute were the little girls snoozing on the marble infront of the buddahs.

We then paid our tuk tuk fare in the form of "acting interested" in textile and jewelry shops. It wasn't all bad: free water, a fair idea of what was available for purchase, a view of the city with commentary. We, of course, didn't buy anything as the prices were highly engorged for the unwitting tourists.

Two hours later we were dropped back at the Golden Palace.
